FISSION
These sites had a pre-existing order but now are in a state of disarray, dissolution, and despair. While the images speak of loss and devastation, they ironically also reveal an underlying beauty in the dense fabric of colors and forms that hold the compositions together. At the quantum level, splitting the atom releases enormous amounts of energy. The photographs in this section capture a different type of breaking apart - the destruction of man-made structures. These images were selected from a few projects that examine the startling confluence of loss and grace in dismantled factories, demolished buildings, and disaster sites. The buildings and their contents, once orderly and organized, are now split apart. I try to discover and capture a new order, at the edge of chaos, that emerges from the randomness.
